Well pump repair in Greenville and the Upstate
Well pump repair for no water, sputtering faucets or a pump that will not stop running. We find out whether it is the pump, the tank or the controls, and fix it.
Why is my well pump not working?
The most common causes are a failed pressure switch, a waterlogged pressure tank, a tripped breaker or damaged control box, or a worn-out pump. Ethical Plumbing tests each part before replacing anything and gives you a written price. Call 864-438-0525.
- Submersible and jet pumps
- Pressure tanks
- Pressure switches and controls
- Well-to-house water lines
Start with the cheapest likely cause
When a well stops delivering water, the pump itself gets the blame, but it is often something simpler and less expensive. A pressure switch with burned contacts, a pressure tank that has lost its air charge, or a control box damaged in a storm can all leave you without water while the pump is fine.
We test the electrical supply, controls, switch and tank before we recommend pulling a pump. If the pump has failed, we explain your options, from a matching replacement to a constant-pressure system that keeps water pressure steady when several taps are running.
Signs your well system needs service

- No water anywhere in the house
- Low or surging water pressure
- Air sputtering from faucets
- The pump turning on and off rapidly
- The pump running constantly
- A jump in your electric bill
- Sand or dirty water after the pump runs

Wells in Upstate homes
Rural homes across Pickens, Spartanburg, Anderson and the North Carolina mountain counties rely on private wells, many drilled deep into rock. Summer thunderstorms are hard on well systems: lightning and power surges are a common cause of failed control boxes and pumps, and a whole-home surge protector can help.
Remember that a well pump needs power. During an outage you will have no water unless you have a generator wired to run the pump. If your water is stained or smells after the pump runs, a whole-house filter may be part of the fix.
What affects the price of a well pump repair
You get a written price before work starts. It depends on:
- Whether the problem is the pump, tank or controls
- Well depth and pump type
- Pump size and horsepower
- Replacing the pressure tank at the same time
- Constant-pressure upgrades
- Access to the well and the well house

Well pump repair FAQs
Do you have to tear up my driveway to fix a leak under it?
No. We bore under driveways, sidewalks and roads to repair or replace the line, so the pavement above stays in place and you are not paying to replace concrete or asphalt too.
How long does a well pump last?
Many well pumps last 10 to 15 years. A waterlogged pressure tank or short cycling can shorten that a lot, which is why we check the tank on every pump call.
Why does my well pump keep turning on and off?
Rapid cycling usually means the pressure tank has lost its air charge or failed, or the pressure switch is faulty. Left alone, it burns out the pump.
Why do I have no water after a storm?
Lightning and power surges often damage the pressure switch, control box or pump. Check the breaker first, then call us.
Can you replace just the pressure tank?
Yes. If the pump is healthy, replacing a failed tank is often all that is needed.
What is a constant-pressure well system?
A variable-speed pump and controller that keep water pressure steady, so showers do not weaken when another tap opens.
Do you drill new wells?
No. We repair and replace pumps, tanks, controls and plumbing on existing wells. New wells are drilled by a licensed well driller.
Why is my well water sandy or dirty?
A failing pump, a pump set too low, or a problem with the well itself can pull in sediment. We check the pump first, and a sediment filter protects your plumbing meanwhile.
Is well pump repair an emergency?
No water at all is treated as urgent. Call 864-438-0525 and tell us what is happening.
