Shower and shower valve repair in Greenville and the Upstate
Shower valve repair for showers that drip, scald, run cold or will not shut off. We repair the valve, or replace it with one that keeps the temperature steady.
Why does my shower keep dripping?
A dripping shower almost always has a worn cartridge or seals inside the shower valve. Replacing the cartridge usually stops it. If the valve is old or parts are unavailable, Ethical Plumbing replaces the valve with a pressure-balanced or thermostatic one. Call 864-438-0525.

The valve behind the wall does the work
Behind your shower handle is a valve that mixes hot and cold water. When it wears, the shower drips, the handle gets stiff, or the temperature jumps when someone flushes a toilet.
Many valves can be repaired by replacing the cartridge, often without opening the wall. Older valves, especially in homes from before the 1990s, may not have parts available or may lack the anti-scald protection newer valves have. Then the right fix is a new valve, which means opening the wall behind the shower or from an access panel. We explain which you need before starting.

- A shower or tub spout that drips
- Water too hot or too cold to adjust

Clogged shower drains
A slow shower drain is usually hair and soap buildup a few inches below the grate, and it is one of the most searched plumbing problems in the Upstate. If clearing the trap does not help, or the tub drains slowly too, see drain cleaning.

Shower valve repair FAQs
Can a shower valve be replaced without removing tile?
Often, if there is an access panel behind the shower or the new trim covers the opening. Otherwise some tile must come out. We explain before starting.
Why does my shower turn hot or cold when someone flushes?
Your valve is not pressure-balanced. A pressure-balanced or thermostatic valve fixes it.
How long does shower valve replacement take?
Usually a few hours, plus any wall repair.
What is a pressure-balanced valve?
A valve that adjusts automatically when water pressure changes, so the temperature stays steady.
My shower drips after I turn it off. Is that normal?
A few drips from water left in the showerhead is normal. A steady drip means a worn cartridge.
Why is my shower pressure low but the sink is fine?
Usually a clogged showerhead or flow restrictor, or a partly blocked valve cartridge.
Can you fix a tub spout that will not divert?
Yes. The diverter in the spout wears out and the spout is replaced.
Do you do shower plumbing for remodels?
Yes. We install valves, drains and supply lines for shower remodels.
